Kampe vs Wix: which is better for an online store in Uganda?
Wix is one of the easiest ways to build a first website. You drag things around until it looks right, and you can have a page up in an afternoon. So when a seller wants a proper shop instead of a WhatsApp catalogue, Wix is an obvious name to try.
I like Wix. The editor is one of the best around. But a shop is a different job from a website. In Uganda the hard parts are getting paid by mobile money or cash, and getting the order to the customer, so this page compares Wix and Kampe on those. I checked every Wix fact on Wix's own pages on 17 October 2026. Kampe's numbers are on our pricing page.
The short answer
If your main goal is a beautiful brand website with bookings or a blog, and selling is a side thing, Wix is a strong choice. If selling is the business and your buyers pay with MTN, Airtel or cash, I think Kampe fits better. It's built around exactly that, and it starts at UGX 5,000 once.
What you pay
To sell on Wix you need a plan that accepts payments. When I checked, those were Core, Business and Business Elite. The cheaper Light plan doesn't take payments. Wix says plainly that its prices vary by country. When I opened the plans page on 17 October 2026, Core was $29 a month on a yearly plan paid upfront, shown in US dollars "for reference only" and before tax. That's $348 for the year, or about UGX 1.41 million at the Bank of Uganda's rate of UGX 4,051.90 to the dollar on 16 October. Wix offers a 14-day money-back guarantee on its plans.
On top of the plan, your payment provider charges its own fee per sale. SeerBit, one of the providers Wix lists for Uganda, says its fees start at 1.5% and vary by location. DPO Group's Wix page doesn't list its fees.
Kampe's Launch plan is UGX 5,000 once, with no monthly fee until you reach UGX 1,000,000 in completed sales. We take 6% on mobile money, and that includes the mobile money provider's charge. Cash on delivery has no fee. After your first million you move to Pro at UGX 35,000 a month (UGX 28,000 a month billed yearly) with a 5% fee, or Max at UGX 70,000 a month (UGX 56,000 billed yearly) with 4%.
I set Launch up this way because I don't think a seller should pay us every month before they've made a sale.
How your customers pay
Wix Payments, Wix's own checkout, works in 15 countries, mostly in Europe and the Americas, and Uganda isn't on the list. For Uganda, Wix lists three providers: PayPal, DPO Group and SeerBit. DPO Group's Wix page lists mobile money including MTN and Airtel, though it doesn't break the list down by country, so test your checkout with a real Ugandan number before you launch. Each provider is its own account with its own sign-up.
Cash on delivery on Wix is a manual payment. You can call it Cash on delivery, and you mark each order as paid yourself once the money is in your hand.
On Kampe, MTN and Airtel mobile money are part of checkout from the day your store goes live. Your customer enters their number, approves the payment on their phone, and the order shows as paid in your dashboard. Cash on delivery is right next to it with no fee. Mobile money made paying easy in Uganda, but selling needs more than a payment, which I wrote about in this post on mobile money.
Kampe doesn't take card payments. If your buyers mostly pay by card or PayPal, Wix with PayPal covers something Kampe doesn't.
Delivery and pickup
Wix's local delivery is flexible. You can draw areas by radius, postal code, a map or a list of cities, with up to 50 areas per region and scheduled delivery slots. Store pickup supports more than one location.
Kampe keeps it closer to how sellers here already work. You create delivery zones like "Central Kampala", each with its own fee and delivery time, and customers see the fee before they pay. You can add pickup locations, 1 on Launch, 2 on Pro and 5 on Max. Neither Wix nor Kampe sends the rider, so you still arrange your own boda or courier. I think that last step decides whether a customer buys from you again, and I wrote about it in delivery is where trust gets won or lost.
Setup and design
This is where Wix shines. Its drag-and-drop editor gives you a lot of freedom over every pixel, and it has apps for things like bookings and events.
Kampe gives you templates you edit visually, with home sections, pages, menus, colours and your logo, and your store lives on its own kampestore.com link from day one. Pro adds your own domain and a blog. It's less free-form than Wix on purpose, because I wanted a seller to get from sign-up to a shop that can take money on a phone without making design decisions they don't care about. Your earnings pay out to MTN or Airtel mobile money, from UGX 10,000, with a UGX 1,500 charge on each withdrawal.

When Wix is the better choice
If you run a salon or a photography business and mainly need a website where people read about you and book, Wix does that better than Kampe. Its bookings and events tools are built for it, and Kampe is a store.
Wix also wins if design freedom is the whole point. When you want a page that looks exactly like the one in your head, down to every pixel, Kampe's templates will feel tight.
And if a lot of your buyers are abroad and pay with PayPal or cards, Wix with PayPal handles that today.
What I'd do
If you sell products and your customers pay with MTN, Airtel or cash, start on Kampe Launch for UGX 5,000, add your products, and share your link where your customers already are. If you also want a big brand website later, you can link it to your Kampe store. All our plans are on the pricing page.
